Overview

A hospital is a chain of handovers — reception to doctor, doctor to lab, lab to pharmacy, pharmacy to billing — and paper is where those handovers break. Every patient gets one medical record number that follows them through every department and every visit.

OPD runs on a token queue with doctor schedules and structured prescriptions. Admissions allocate beds and wards and carry the patient from admission to a printed discharge summary. The laboratory takes test orders and prints results; the pharmacy dispenses against prescriptions from its own stock.

Billing brings it together — itemised charges, procedure packages, advances and dues — and each role sees only what it needs: reception, doctors, lab, pharmacy and accounts.
